- Dr. Chavez received her Ph.D. in social experimental psychology at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Research / Areas of Interests: research, social experimental psychology, quality of life, identifying disparities to advance health equity, minoritized populations, health services research methods, and cross-cultural adaptations.
Ligia Chavez is a Social Experimental Psychologist with experience in methodological, psychometric, health disparities, and multi-site research. Dr. Chavez has worked on the development, implementation, and management of complex data for collaborative research across multiple sites and sectors. Her work trajectory has resulted in the improvement of the reliability and content validity of several instruments, the development of a toolkit on the methodology of translation and adaptation, the development of the academic careers of minority researchers, and the publication of various articles in child and adult mental health, psychometrics and minority disparities research. Over the past decade, she has also worked on the implementation of two asthma self-management interventions tested with a randomized control trial design, an asthma self-management Hybrid Type III effectiveness-implementation randomized trial, and most recently a sleep hygiene two-site Hybrid Type 1 effectiveness-implementation trial design.
