{"id":220,"date":"2016-09-09T19:00:54","date_gmt":"2016-09-09T19:00:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/127.0.0.1\/rcm\/farmacia\/museum\/"},"modified":"2023-11-09T20:27:29","modified_gmt":"2023-11-09T20:27:29","slug":"museum","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/rcm1.rcm.upr.edu\/farmacia\/museum\/","title":{"rendered":"Museum of Pharmacy and Medicinal Plants"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]<strong>A Concept is Born<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-102 size-medium alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/rcm1.rcm.upr.edu\/farmacia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Museo-Farmacia-300x225-1.jpg\" alt=\"Museum of Pharmacy and Medicinal Plants\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/>During academic year 2005-2006, the UPR Vice-Presidency initiated the coordination of efforts directed to the renovation and improvement of the university museums, with the goal of eventually attaining accreditation by the \u00a0American Association of Museums.\u00a0 The former Luis Torres D\u00edaz Pharmacy Museum of the School of Pharmacy embraced this initiative and \u00a0in September 2007 the concept of a new Museum of Pharmacy and Medicinal Plants emerged.\u00a0\u00a0 The purpose was to articulate the research, preservation and education activities of the Luis Torres D\u00edaz Museum of Pharmacy, originally opened in1954, with those of the School\u2019s\u00a0 former Medicinal and Poisonous Plants Garden, founded in 1936.\u00a0 This required the adoption of a new mission and vision.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Mission and Vision<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>mission<\/strong> of the Museum of Pharmacy and Medicinal Plants is to engage in research, preservation and education activities related to the living collection of medicinal plants of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, and to the historic collection on pharmacy practice in the island, with the purpose of contributing to the enhancement of scientific knowledge about natural drug products, the discovery of new and better drugs, and the appreciation for pharmacy&#8217;s heritage and social commitment.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>vision<\/strong> \u00a0is to be the leader in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean in research, conservation and education related with natural drug products and the professional evolution of pharmacy in the island.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]<strong>More<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rcm1.rcm.upr.edu\/farmacia\/museum\/foundations-transformation\/\">Foundations for the\u00a0Transformation<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rcm1.rcm.upr.edu\/farmacia\/museum\/collections\/\">Collections<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rcm1.rcm.upr.edu\/farmacia\/museum\/programs\/\">Programs<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rcm1.rcm.upr.edu\/farmacia\/museum\/visiting-collections\/\">Visiting the Collections<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Exhibitions:\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rcm1.rcm.upr.edu\/farmacia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Past_Exhibitions-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Past Exhibitions<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rcm1.rcm.upr.edu\/farmacia\/museum\/join-us\/\">Join Us<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Contact Us<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"mailto:teresa.brigantti@upr.edu\">teresa.brigantti@upr.edu<\/a><a href=\"mailto:teresa.brigantti@upr.edu\"><br \/>\n<\/a><br \/>\nTel.
