Admission Requirements

Minimum requirements: B.S. or M.S. degree from an internationally recognized institution. The applicant should be a major in one of the following fields: Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Pharmacy or Pharmaceutical Sciences. In special cases, Bachelor or Master´s degrees in other related fields can be considered. In these cases, before submission of the application, the student will be encouraged to request approval from the Assistant Dean of Graduate Programs.

Additional Requirements

  • Average GPA of 3.00 or above.
  • Submit official transcripts from all previously attended institutions.
  • Submit three (3) letters of recommendation, which follow the established format. Letters should be requested from university professors or professionals in the field who are able to comment on your qualifications for graduate studies.
  • Submit a personal essay (max. 800 words) stating academic goals and reasons for interest in the program, research experience, accomplishments, and any awards or publications, if applicable.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in English (TOEFL or equivalent, if applicable).
  • Interview by the Graduate Committee (by invitation only).

Procedure to Apply for Admission

  • Submit your application for admission to the School of Pharmacy through the Pharmacy Graduate Application Service (PharmGrad) at org.
  • Additionally, submit your application to the Medical Sciences Campus via https://solicitud.upr.edu.
  • Letters of recommendation, the personal essay, and transcripts will be processed through PharmGrad and/or the Electronic Application for studies at the Medical Sciences Campus.
  • Applications will be considered incomplete if both processes (PharmGrad and the RCM Admissions Office) are not completed on time.
  • It is the responsibility of each applicant to verify and ensure that both applications and all required documents (transcripts, letters of recommendation, personal essay, etc.) are submitted in full on or before December 15, 2025, to the Office of Admissions, attention:  Raiza Hidalgo(Tel. 787-758-2525 Exts. 5213, 5228; email: raiza.hidalgo1@upr.edu).

NOTE:

Candidates for the PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences Program must complete both the PharmGrad and Medical Sciences Campus applications.

  • PharmGrad application opens on August 15, 2025.
  • Medical Sciences Campus application opens on September 1, 2025.
